Got an old, unusable wetsuit hanging out in the back of the cupboard and you’re not sure what to do with it? Ripcurl’s partnership with TerraCycle has made recycling your wetsuits both a simple and free process. Instead of going to waste in landfill, wetsuits are recycled into a host of new forms including soft fall matting at playgrounds. Both the Mornington and Sorrento Ripcurl stores will accept any brand of wetsuit (so long as they’re not dripping wet)!
Note: Listen to the podcast in the section below for some inspiration and guidance on your next wetsuit purchase.

This Waterpeople episode dives deep into the impacts of the neoprene industry and its troubling effects upon both the environment and people. The discussion with the directors of upcoming documentary ‘The Big Sea’ highlights the intersection between the billion dollar neoprene industry and its consequential environmental, social, and racial injustice. Also focusing on the alternatives available, the directors propose natural rubber alternatives as a pathway to a more sustainable surfing industry. A really important listen to inform all of us who are lucky enough to call the ocean our home.
If you’re interested in natural rubber and choosing sustainable surfing products, we’ve compiled a list of brands (Australian and International) who are pioneering great natural rubber wetsuits. Check it out below!
WATCH.
Masterfully crafted by nonfictioncreatives, this short film is an epic video portrait of surfer Frankie Harrer. Including lots of time spent in many different barrels and some pretty wholesome cameos from her young kid, Harrer’s film is punchy, fun, and light-hearted.
